The 10 people to invite or not to invite

These days I’m planning my sister’s wedding. It is during this testing time did I realize I’d love to share with everyone how exciting and how trying this period can be. When I started with the plans I had a lot of stuff in my head and within my head I was in control of everything. But as soon as I started planning things out and formulating actual things I realized my mind is too perfect and nothing is going wrong there, but reality is too complicated and nothing goes according to my wishes here. So after several attempts of trying to do things my way I gave in and decided to let things be and go with the flow, there seemed no point in trying to go against the stream. Since then I’m far more relaxed and more in the mood to share my experiences with everyone. So let’s begin… The first obstacle of the wedding is always who all to invite, though I would like nothing more than inviting a few family and friends who are closest to me, unfortunately, the wedding list can never be a l...

What would Asma Siddiqui like for her Birthday of 2017?

It’s that month of the year when my gift expectations are on a high, when I want everyone to forget Valentines Day and remember that I was born on it and that’s what makes the day special. And if you’re wondering I’m too told to be celebrating my birthday or expecting gifts please be vocal about it so I can unfriend you this moment! I’m too awesome to be old and I am too Aquarius to be surprised about gifts, also I prefer you don’t waste your effort, time and money on buying me something that I may never come to use.  So like every year I decide to list down all the things that I am thinking of buying for myself, that you can happily buy for me and I’d love you for the ‘gift’. I know lots of people have been asking me for this list to make their shopping easier, and I’ve been promising it to them but I’m sorry been too busy lately. So without wasting too much time into this and that let’s get straight to my list: 1.      My top priority thing is go...

Summer Vacations: The Pre-Hunza Edition

Vacations are a summer’s thing… we all hope, plan, or actually go around that time on vacations. Picking out the summer to beat the heat and taking a trip to a different area preferably a cooler location is the highlight of vacations. So this summer I planned a vacation too; actually I had been planning this for years, only this summer I executed the plan to the final. My sister or as I prefer to call her my partner in crime worked on this vacation for a good long time, months and months we had discussions, we picked out locations, we invited friends to join us, we dug internet for information, we spoke to people who’d taken vacations to the certain areas we’d wanted to go to. My idea of the vacations was the northern areas of Pakistan, the mountains, the snow, and the different people; in general I had a very generic picture in mind. However my sister who had been living up in the north for two years had more particular places in mind, she was more aware of names and she had pro...

Job Interview Tips

I interview 15-20 people a day and I get hoards of idiots who are either there for their first interview or who have been interviewed so many times that they think following the interview codes are below their personality now. Here’s a list of Do’s and Don’ts for interviewees that they should try out to make a better first impression, and don’t get on my hate list as soon as they walk in chewing a gum! Dos: 1. Be confident – don’t walk into an office as if you’ve come to beg for a job, regardless of how needy you are, don’t cry about your problems in front of the interviewer and plead with them to hire you coz you are in a financial crises and really really need the job. 2. Make eye contact – look into the interviewers eye and answer his questions, (don’t stare – that would be too rude) but look with genuine interest. 3. Use hand movements – when talking use your hands, people who use their hands when talking feel more likeable than people who sit rigid answering like ...

Evolution of Friendship

Friends in childhood are full of innocence, they don’t judge you for the money you have, or your looks. When you are children there’s no competition, there’s no jealousy, there’s only friendship above everything materialistic thing. As these friends grow up the same unconditional friendships are divided by money, looks and interests, conflicts of personalities and opinions. As adults things such as religion; which were nonsensical things as children, become major issues. You choose your friends according your beliefs and according to your social status. As a child you never had issues being friends with a kid who wore old clothes or used second hand books at school, then why as an adult you refuse to eat together with a poor person? Aren’t we better of as children? Who are never judgmental? As adults we start judging people, and start calculating benefits from every relation. As children we’re allowed to love and be loved without conditions as adults we want the best...

Street Food: Shahdab ke Mashoor Gol Gappy

Gol Gappay or Pani poori the different words for the same amazing street food that makes any person salivating at the mention of it. Umm the thought of a crispy round poori filled with chutney and chickpeas topped with spicy and sour pani; that you pop in your mouth and enjoy the feeling of being in heavens yum! I want to have another plate please. Now Pani poori or more commonly known in Karachi as gol gappy is one of the most easiest snack available. A few problems you may encounter with them are: 1. The hygiene (but that’s a problem with most street food) 2. The pani can actually upset your tummy very bad if you have it from an unrecognized place. 3. The size of the pooris can be huge in some places so people with smaller mouths will struggle to pop them in, and there’s no point of a poori exploding outside your mouth! 4. The pani can literally be that just pani; also not very inviting. Coz the pani of a poori’s got to be all spicy and tangy but if it’s just plain ...

You've Lost Me

I let you tell me you love me and tell me I’m pretty, I let me judge myself through your eyes. I blushed when you looked at me like no one else existed and I melted within your arms. My eyes sought no one except you when I dressed up because everything I did was for you. The kohl in my eyes belonged to you, the color of my cheeks was yours, and most importantly the smile I wore was because of you. Can you believe it when I say that every moment I was awake and  my heart was beating I could hear it say your name? I could think of you every moment of the day. I was so in love with you! It hurts me to know my place in your heart was so temporary, you could walk out of my life so easily. You were my world and you claimed I was yours, yet you turned your back on me and walked away. I was so used to seeing myself through your eyes that it took me a while to realize I am beautiful. I am a beautiful person inside unlike you. I don’t need your approval for it. I was and will ...
